Private tutor in Garland, TX
Education
I am an undergraduate student about to begin my third year at Florida State University located in Tallahassee, Florida. My major is English Education and I currently have a 3.7 GPA. I graduated from Plano East Senior High School in Plano, Texas in 2013 and intend to graduate from university by the end of spring 2016.
Experience
As part of my major, I've had a couple of tutoring/mentoring opportunities. I worked with a group called 50 Large (located in Tallahassee, Florida) tutoring adolescent boys in grades 6-12 in subjects such as algebra, earth science, reading, and US government for roughly four months in 2015. In 2013, I spent a semester mentoring an 11th grade student at a high school in Tallahassee, Florida. I have also sat down and observed both middle school and high school classrooms as part of my field experience. My degree requires that I become certified to teach English Language Learners in a 6-12 English classroom, so I have minor experience with that. I spent a semester working with ESL students in grades K and 2, helping them with reading and math in English. I was on the Dean's List for my university for a total of four terms. I have also taken, and passed, the required exams for Florida Teacher Certification with a focus on 6-12 English. I took the SAT in 2012 and received the following scores: 640 in reading, 540 in math, and 590 in writing. I took a total of eight AP tests during high school: English Literature and Composition, English Language and Composition, Macroeconomics, US Government and Politics, European History, World History, Psychology, and US History. The scores I received were either 3s or 4s, with the exception of macroeconomics where I received a 2. Ultimately, I'm interested in tutoring because it will provide me with the practice needed for when I begin teaching after I receive my degree. As I already have a passion for both education and English, I believe tutoring is geared towards my interests. I would like to help others break down difficult concepts so they may begin to understand and succeed. As someone who takes great pride in my study skills and the knowledge I've gained throughout my education, I believe sharing this knowledge with others to be incredibly rewarding.

Hobbies
I enjoy reading and writing outside of an academic context, and have done a bit of creative writing throughout high school and university. My favorite authors include: Jonathan Safran Foer, James Baldwin, Shakespeare, and J.D. Salinger. I also love listening to music. I'll listen to any genre of music, but have a preference for pop punk, rap, or post-rock. I also love animals and have two cats and a 3 year old chocolate lab whom I love to take on walks.
